After about three weeks in Tibet I found myself here, at the Everest Base Camp which should really be called "The Everest Tourist Trap." Fortunately though, the Chinse have concentrated the tourist stuff along the stretch of road you see here. After this, it's about an hour's walk to the closest you can get to Everest without a permit where there is a spectacular view . . .
