In 1993 almost all four-wheel vehicles in the city belonged to the United Nations or to NGOs. These days the Cambodian middle class crowd the roads in their with their cars and SUVs. The pony and ox carts have disappeared from the city, although pedicabs and the occasional pedestrian survive as endangered species.
